While many people think of skincare as something to start later in life, the best time to begin a routine is in your teenage years, around the ages of 12-14. This is when hormonal changes can lead to skin issues like acne and oiliness.
Starting a simple skincare routine early helps to:
- Prevent future problems: It sets a foundation for healthy skin and can prevent issues like premature aging and sun damage.
- Manage current concerns: It helps control acne and other common teenage skin problems.
- Establish good habits: It teaches you the importance of cleansing and protecting your skin, which are habits that will last a lifetime.
A basic routine for a young person should be simple and focus on these three steps:
- Cleanse: Wash your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt and oil.
- Moisturize: Apply a light moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated.
- Protect: Use a broad spectrum sunscreen every day to protect your skin from sun damage.
