We grow it as a garden culture and we use it as food. However basil is also used as a medicinal remedy. Hot herbal decoction is drunk during kidneys’ inflammation, bladder, cold, and a running nose. The decoction is useful for intestines’ and liver’s colics, flatulence, lack of appetite, also during neurosis, headache, epilepsy, bronchial asthma. Basil is considered an effective remedy for increasing milk supply in nursing women.
With basil it is possible to cure the following diseases:
1. Otitis. 2 tablespoons of herb pour with 0.5 liters of boiling water, bring to a boil on low fire, but do not boil, let it stand for 10 minutes. Make a compress on the painful ear and hold for 1 2 hours. Its use is possible every day, as long as the ear hurts you.
2. Conjunctivitis. 1 tablespoon of dry herb pour with a glass of boiling water. Leave until it cools down. Rinse eyes several times a day with this infusion.
3. Skin itching. 2 tablespoons of dried herb pour with 0.5 L of boiling water, let it stand for 2 hours, strain. Drink half a glass 2 3 times a day before eating.
4. Nervous tension, increased fatigue. Boil 1 tablespoon of greens in a glass of boiling water, let it stand for 15 20 minutes. Drink as a tea with sugar or honey, but not more than 2 times a day.
5. Nausea. Drink the same infusion during nausea or vomiting.
6. Toothache. He grew basil exclusively, as a seasoning, he did not even suspect its medicinal properties. But one day, with a toothache, he was riding a bus. A woman sitting opposite me looked at me for a while, then asked me what was bothering me. I only waved my hand in response, because from the pain I could not even speak. Then the woman bent towards her things, pulled out a basil branch from her bag and advised me, to chew the leaves and then apply it to the painful tooth. I did so. It is surprising, that when we arrived in the city, my tooth did not hurt anymore! Therefore, for the first time I learned about basil’s medicinal properties.
7. Mosquito bite. I did not even like summer evenings because of these insects, because to protect myself from them, I had to put on a warm sports suit and then work all sweaty. My neighbor was not bitten by mosquitoes at all. I was very surprised by this, and then I asked, what was the secret. And it turned out there was no secret the woman just sprinkled the open areas of her body with basil’s leaves, whose smell repelled the insects. Since then I also started using this method and the mosquitoes left me alone.
From strong cold cough’s getting rid of. In the summer I got sick, the same neighbor in the country heard my cough and again helped me with her advice. She recommended pouring 1 tbsp. of crushed basil leaves with 0.5 glass of boiling water, insistently warm it up, strain and drink before eating. And so 3 times a day. For 2 days I drank the infusion and the cough disappeared. Taking even this remedy normalizes the work of the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore I advise everyone to plant basil. As you see, this plant not only significantly improves food’s taste, but also heals.
Contraindications:
Basil is not always harmless. Due to the presence of a hypercoagulative effect it is contraindicated during coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction, thrombophlebitis, thrombosis. Its treatment is not possible for people with hypertension and diabetes.
