Most people consider this plant a weed, however…
One of the reasons why I love spring so much is seeing dandelion flowers against a background of fresh green grass. Worker bees adore dandelion flowers, gather and fill the air with happy buzzing.
My family also loves these bright flowers: every spring we gather them together to prepare medicines and delicious dishes. Dandelions can be eaten raw in salads, added to soups, pancakes, baked pies, and you can prepare syrup, jam, and herbal tea.
Dandelion medicines
This modest plant is used in medicine to treat infections, gallbladder and liver diseases, and as a diuretic.
Did you know that this plant is one of the most effective remedies for relieving joint and muscle pain? It has been confirmed that the anti-inflammatory properties of dandelion help treat arthritis, gout, relieve spasms and headaches. For this, they prepare an oil from dandelion flowers, which they rub on painful areas.
Today I will tell you how to make healing oil from dandelion. It is considered the most powerful weapon in terms of its effect on the body.
Dandelion oil
The plants should be collected only in ecologically clean areas, away from highways and big cities.
Ingredients:
- 500 grams of dandelion flowers
- 1 liter of quality cold-pressed vegetable oil
Preparation:
- In dry sunny weather, collect dandelion flowers and place them in a one-liter jar so that it is half full.
- Fill it to the top with vegetable oil, wrap the top of the jar with gauze.
- Place the jar in a warm sunny place for 3 weeks.
- As soon as the flowers turn brown, strain the oil into a sterilized dark glass bottle.
- Store the healing oil in a dark, cool place.
If you do not wish to wait for several weeks, you can prepare it in another way.
- Pour the vegetable oil into a pot and add the dandelion flowers.
- Heat the mixture in a water bath for 30-60 minutes over the lowest heat.
- Transfer the mixture to a jar and leave it in the sun for one day.
- Strain the oil and pour it into an opaque container.
- Store the tightly closed container in a cool, dark place.
Advice:
The oil should not be very hot, never bring it to a boil. The longer you manage to heat it without boiling, the more beneficial substances the flowers will release into the oil.
To prevent the product from spoiling, make sure the storage container is completely dry. Most of these extracts can be used for up to one year if stored properly.
You can freeze dandelion flowers and use them in winter too.
Such a dandelion extract will help you with:
- Liver and gallbladder diseases,
- In case of frequent constipation, as a choleretic agent,
- In case of any problems with the gastrointestinal tract (gastritis, colitis).
You should take it 1 tbsp. 3 times a day, with meals.
For joint pain, you need to rub the painful areas with dandelion oil 2-3 times a day – this will give a lasting analgesic effect.
Also, by preparing a salad with this oil, you will enrich it with beneficial substances and give it a refined taste.
